Galaxy A52s, S21 FE Get September Security Patch with 67 Fixes

by | Sep 16, 2024 | Galaxy A, Galaxy S, News, Updates

As Samsung rolls out One UI 6.1.1 to more Galaxy devices globally, it’s also expanding the release of the September security patch. The latest security update is now rolling out to the Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy A52s. The Galaxy S21 series is also receiving this update widely. Samsung is pushing nearly 70 vulnerability patches to Galaxy devices this month.

September security update rolling out to the Galaxy A52s and S21 FE

The September security patch, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release), contains 67 vulnerability fixes across the Galaxy family, including tablets. Some of these are Android OS patches from Google, while others are Galaxy fixes from Samsung. The Korean firm has been rolling out the new SMR to its devices since early this month. It has been a relatively slow rollout due to the One UI 6.1.1 update.

That said, Samsung has already updated the Galaxy S24, Fold 6, Flip 6, Galaxy S21, S20 FE, and Galaxy A14 to the September security patch, at least in some markets. You can now add the Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy A52s to this ever-growing list. As of this writing, carrier-locked variants of the former are receiving the update in the US with the firmware build number G990USQSCGXH1.

The A series phone, meanwhile, is initially picking up the September SMR in Europe with firmware version A528BXXS9GXH2. Samsung should soon roll out this update to these phones in other markets. Since it’s only a security patch, do not expect new features or functional improvements. Neither device is getting One UI 6.1.1 or anything. These phones are unlikely to receive the new One UI update.

The September SMR, meanwhile, will gradually roll out to more Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Flip 5, and a few others that have been updated to One UI 6.1.1 are also pending the latest security release. Samsung shouldn’t take much longer to update those devices. You can always check for new updates from the Settings app on your Galaxy phone or tablet.
