Feast Your Eyes on These Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition Live Photos

Three months after launching the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Samsung introduced an upgraded foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. This new model boasts several improvements, though it lacks S Pen support. Unfortunately, the company doesn’t intend to launch it outside of South Korea and China. You can still take a closer look at the device through these live photos courtesy of ZDNet Korea.

The Korean publication shared several photos and GIFs showing the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition from multiple angles. It compared the new foldable with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, highlighting the design differences. You won’t need any special lenses to notice how much thinner the new device is. It is 10.6mm thick when folded and 4.9mm when unfolded, while the Fold 6 is 12.1mm (folded) and 5.6mm (unfolded) thick.

At 157.9mm tall and 142.6mm wide (72.8mm when folded), the Special Edition also has a substantially bigger profile. The Fold 6 is 153.5mm tall and 132.6mm wide (68.1mm when folded). These changes in dimensions allowed Samsung to equip the new foldable with bigger screens, including a wider cover screen. The 6.5-inch external display has a 21:9 aspect ratio, closer to a regular smartphone display.

A bigger footprint also allowed Samsung to pack a sizable battery (unchanged from the Fold 6 at 4,400mAh) while reducing the device’s weight and thickness. With no S Pen input, the company could remove the digitizer from the display assembly to make it thinner and lighter. These images shared by the Korean publication offer a good look at Samsung’s design enhancements on the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.

The Korean firm will release the device in its home country on October 25. Buyers will have to pay around $300 more compared to the Fold 6. The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition’s Chinese launch isn’t confirmed yet. Leaks suggest Samsung will offer ceramic back on the Chinese version. The phone could also get a golden touch to its black shade in China. A global launch of the most advanced Galaxy foldable is unlikely.
