Samsung will soon roll out the One UI 7 update to dozens of Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Unfortunately, the Galaxy S20 series won’t get the upcoming big update. The 2020 flagships are no longer eligible for feature updates. However, Samsung hasn’t ended security patches for them. It recently released the March 2025 security update for the Galaxy S20 lineup.
Galaxy S20 series gets the March security update
The Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra are picking up their latest update widely in Europe. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is available for both the 4G/LTE and 5G versions of the 2020 flagship trio. The updated firmware build version is HYB1. Since these phones don’t get feature updates anymore, the latest release is all about last month’s security fixes.
While Samsung has already released the April patch, the Galaxy S20 series isn’t getting it just yet. In fact, these phones may never receive the April 2025 SMR, as they get new security patches every 2-3 months. Well, this could even be the last update for the lineup, as it has completed five years in the market.
We’ll surely let you know if Samsung pushes more updates to the Galaxy S20 trio in the future. For the time being, these phones are picking up the March security update. Last month’s security release addresses over 50 vulnerabilities, including a few critical issues. Samsung should soon roll out this update in more markets, including the US.
As far as One UI 7 is concerned, it will be available for the Galaxy S21 and newer flagships, as well as a bunch of budget and mid-range handsets. The rollout begins on April 7, with the Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Flip 6 in line to get it first. With no new feature additions in sight, it’s time Galaxy S20 users consider upgrading to a newer model. Samsung currently offers a flat $100 discount on the Galaxy S25+.
