Nearly 3 months after launch, the Galaxy S25 series finally receives a new Google Play System Update. Stuck on the October 1, 2024 update since unboxing, our US unlocked Galaxy S25 Ultra just received a 76MB Google Play System Update. Surprisingly, it wasn’t an April Fools’ Day joke. The new update reflects the March 1, 2025 date in settings upon reboot.
Early adopters of the Galaxy S25 have been furious with Samsung’s lack of attention to software updates. In addition to the long delay for the new Google Play System version, One UI 7 feature updates and bug fixes have been few and far between. We previously speculated that Samsung could wait until the Galaxy S24 series receives stable One UI 7.0 to push a current GPS, but thankfully we were incorrect.
March 2025 Google Play System Update – What’s In It?
The new Google Play System update for March 2025 brings a host of improvements and fixes for Android devices. This update is generally responsible for improving Android specific features like the new Instant Hotspot capability and bringing new feature to the Google Play Store. The March update adds improvements for Google Wallet, Gemini, Wear OS, and brings a few new recommendation features to the Play Store.
While the Google Play System update doesn’t bring anything revolutionary, it is always disappointing to receive late updates on a brand new device. Samsung and Google allowed the Galaxy S25 series to run a 6 month old GPS for quite awhile, which is unacceptable. Now that the new Google Play System Update is here for the Galaxy S25, we turn our attention to the stable One UI 7.0 release later this month. The April 2025 security update will also bring new features and improvements for Galaxy S25 users. In particular, the media player should be coming to the Now Bar with that update. Stay tuned to the site for continuous Samsung update coverage as One UI 7.0 rolls out!
