TikTok was banned for a short while on Saturday night, only to make a comeback the very next day. Just when the timing couldn’t be more perfect, many apps are scrambling to capitalize on the possibility of a full ban. Speaking of which, Bluesky is jumping on the bandwagon, rolling out a TikTok-like short, trending video feed soon.
Bluesky is pulling a TikTok-like short video feed
Once backed by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, Bluesky recently announced that it’s rolling out an endless scrolling short video feed in the app. In a post, Bluesky wrote, “We had to get in on the video action too — Bluesky now has custom feeds for video! Like any other feed, you can choose to pin these or not. Bluesky is yours to customize.” Much like TikTok and Instagram Reels, you can scroll through vertical videos and like, comment, or reshare them.
Bluesky has introduced the custom video feed under the “Trending Videos” section in the Discover tab. To find it, just tap on the search icon. Below the video previews, you’ll see a handy “Pin” option. You can use it to keep your favorite videos front and center on your feed.
As for popularity, Bluesky is nowhere near TikTok’s numbers. However, things have been looking up, especially since the 2024 US presidential election. As of January 15, Bluesky reached over 27.5 million users globally (via CNET). It’s still small compared to other social media giants, but it’s definitely gaining traction.
This feature is now available on both the Android and iOS versions of Bluesky. If you can’t find it yet, make sure your app is updated to the latest version. That said, while TikTok is back in the US, it’s no surprise that more apps are jumping on the bandwagon, bringing a classic TikTok feature to their platforms.
