Last week, Google announced that it will release Android 16 in June next year but didn’t reveal a specific date. Now, a leak has potentially revealed the exact date. This is exciting for Galaxy users, as Samsung may prepare for the One UI 8 release alongside Android 16.
New leak reveals the exact Android 16 release date
According to a report from Android Headlines, Google is planning to launch the Android 16 update on June 3, 2025. We are talking about the stable version rather than the beta. This would be approximately three months earlier than the Android 15 AOSP release, which happened in early September.
The report says Google plans to release both the AOSP and Pixel versions of Android 16 on the same day. This year, Pixel devices received Android 15 on October 15, over a month after the AOSP release. If this date is accurate, Pixels will get Android 16 over four months earlier than Android 15.
This also bodes well for the Samsung Galaxy family. The Korean firm may be able to bring One UI 8 with Android 16 to its phones and tablets early. We may see a beta release in June 2025, with a stable version following a month or two later. That’s if Samsung’s development work doesn’t take as long as One UI 7. It’s yet to begin beta testing of its Android 15 update, reportedly because of the scale of changes it’s making to its custom software.
Since Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 in July 2025, it could ship the new foldables with One UI 8 out of the box. Or maybe we are being too optimistic, time will tell. Google has already confirmed plans to release two Android updates next year. The second one will be a minor build and come in the fourth quarter. Exciting times are ahead in the Android camp, so stay tuned.
