It’s been rumored for a while that the upcoming Galaxy S25 series will support Qi2 wireless charging. A press release sent to the media today confirms that this is indeed happening. The press release from the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) doesn’t explicitly mention the Galaxy S25 series. Instead, it states “Galaxy devices in 2025.” But you have to read between the lines.
Samsung may have officially confirmed the Qi2 support for the Galaxy S25 series
While Apple iPhones have been quick to adopt Qi2 wireless charging technology, Android OEMs haven’t paid much attention. That said, HMD Skyline is currently the only Android phone with built-in Qi2 support. But not for long. Samsung was mentioned in the WPC press release, confirming its plans to integrate Qi2 into its Galaxy lineup this year.
“The exceptional Qi2 growth story will continue in 2025. You can expect to see Android devices supporting Qi2 from Samsung Galaxy devices in 2025.”
While specific models remain undisclosed, it’s quite likely that the Galaxy S25 series may support Qi2 through the use of compatible cases. However, the WPC’s announcement strongly hints at the possibility of native Qi2 integration in future Samsung flagship devices.
Google Pixels will also support the Qi2 wireless charging
Besides Samsung, Google is also preparing to switch to the Qi2 wireless charging standard. The company has hinted at the possibility of Qi2 wireless charging support coming to Pixel devices. Furthermore, Google is actively involved in the development of the Qi 2.2 standard, as mentioned in the press release.
“Google is helping to achieve this goal by playing a leading role in the development of the upcoming Qi v2.2 standard, which includes Google’s contribution of its own high-power wireless charging technology to WPC,” wrote Google.
That said, neither Google nor Samsung has shared a specific timeline or explicitly stated which models will support Qi2. At the end of the day, Qi2 support for the Galaxy S25 series remains an assumption until an official confirmation. Meanwhile, several leaks and early case previews have hinted at probable Qi2 support, with the use of a case.
