While Samsung continues to dominate the global foldable smartphone market, it may scale back foldable production in 2025. A market research firm revealed that Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Fold 6 sales have dipped compared to the Flip 5 and Fold 5 models. Despite this, the company may unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 7, Fold 7, Fold SE 2, and an affordable foldable, likely the Galaxy Z Flip FE this year. For Galaxy Z Flip 7, Samsung may have inked a deal with China’s Huanli as a primary supplier.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 & Fold 6 sales down by 6%
According to Hana Securities (via @Jukanlosreve), Samsung’s combined sales for the Z Flip 6 and Fold 6 hit a new low. In figures, it’s 4.9 million units over five months since the launch in July. Breaking it down, 2.81 million Flip 6 and 2.09 million Fold 6 units were sold between July and November 2024.
That’s a 6% dip compared to the Z Flip 5 and Fold 5 series, which totaled 5.2 million units over the same period. Specifically, Samsung shipped 3.3 million Flip 5 units and 1.91 million Fold 5 units by the end of November 2023. Considering dipping sales, Samsung may scale back foldable production this year while expanding the lineup with new models.
China’s Huanli will supply hinges for Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7
Rumor has it that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 could launch in mid-2025. And it looks like Samsung’s getting its hinge suppliers in line ahead of time. According to The Elec, citing industry sources, Samsung has struck a deal with Huanli as the primary supplier for the Z Flip 7’s hinges. KH Vatec, which has been the main supplier for years, will shift to a secondary role.
Huanli, which already snagged over 50% of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 hinge market share, is expected to bump that up to more than 70% this year. However, KH Vatec is still holding its ground as the go-to supplier for the Galaxy Z Fold series. It provided most of the hinges for the Galaxy Z Fold 6, with Esconnex handling a smaller share. More Galaxy Z FOld 6 and Flip 6 rumors should surface soon.
