Samsung is expected to debut an XR device as early as next year. While the talks about Samsung working on an XR wearable device have been around since a while, thanks to joint announcement by Qualcomm and Google. Samsung has recently filed a patent at USPTO for what it appears to be smart glasses with speaker.
Samsung may have some new speaker plans for smart glasses, reveals patent
First spotted by 91Mobiles, Samsung’s recently filed patent for smart glasses tackles a common headache in wearable devices. You see, when power lines and speakers are too close for comfort, they often create unwanted noise due to electromagnetic interference. Samsung’s solution to this is designing the power line to partially overlap the speaker’s coil in a way that balances out the magnetic field.
The glasses look pretty much like regular smart glasses from the outside. They have oval-shaped lenses and two arms that go over your ear. According to what patent reveals, these have touch sensors, so you can control them by tapping or swiping. They also have pressure sensors that can tell how hard you’re pressing. Plus, they can display images right in front of your eyes, which is something missing from the rumored upcoming Samsung XR glasses at the moment.
In all fairness, however, just because Samsung has a patent doesn’t mean we’ll definitely see these glasses in stores. Companies often file patents for ideas they’re working on, but not all of them end up becoming real products. Still, with all these detailed plans, it seems Samsung is pretty serious about making these a reality. Whatever happens, we’ve yet to see.
The word on the street is that Samsung’s smart glasses or head-mounted device might be a surprise launch during the Galaxy Unpacked. Of course, Galaxy S25 series is going to have the bigger portion of limelight, but who wouldn’t want something even cooler?
