In November, Samsung announced a major leadership reshuffle, appointing its first female CEO outside the founding family. During that time, the company also revealed plans to create a new committee to focus on quality improvements across its mobile products, including smartphones. Led by Samsung’s Vice Chairman and CEO, Han Jong-hee, the Quality Innovation Committee (QIC) will convene for the first time on December 31, 2024.
Samsung creates new committee for quality assurance
QIC is a new committee under Samsung’s Device eXperience (DX) division, which houses the smartphone business. According to a new report from Pulse News, Han Jong-hee, who also leads the DX Division, has invited several key members to the meeting scheduled on the last day of the year. Executives from the mobile, display, and digital appliance businesses will attend the meeting.
Samsung created this committee after various quality issues across several products this year. Most notably, the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro users found the rubber ear tips of extremely poor quality. The tips could easily tear when pulled out of the buds. There have also been complaints about poor finishing on the buds. Additionally, incidents like the glass door breakage in its drum washing machines highlighted the need for enhanced quality measures.
Last month’s organizational restructuring laid the foundation for the creation of QIC. This committee will ensure every product Samsung makes meets a strict quality requirement before it goes on sale. “Product development, quality assurance, and production usually involve seamless collaboration,” an industry official noted. “With this committee, Samsung Electronics signals its dedication to achieving impeccable product quality.”
This committee will serve as a platform for each division to address quality issues collaboratively. Samsung believes this initiative will help ensure that upcoming products meet higher standards. The company is currently preparing to launch its flagship Galaxy S25 series on January 22, 2025. Hopefully, the new flagships won’t have any quality issues.
