Detect and Disable Hidden Bluetooth Trackers with new Android Features

by | Dec 12, 2024 | News

Google has made key updates to Android‘s safety features. Users can now detect and remove unauthorized Bluetooth trackers around them. These enhancements, part of its unknown tracker alerts, automatically notify users if an unfamiliar tracker appears to be moving with them.

New safety tools empower Android users to detect and disable suspicious trackers

Bluetooth trackers are a great piece of tech for locating items that you may misplace, like keys. However, they can be misused to track your movement or activities. Since these trackers are tiny in size, someone could hide them in your car or handbag. Google’s latest safety features for Android aim to address this growing problem.

Among the new capabilities is a Find Nearby feature, which allows users to pinpoint the physical location of an unknown tracker. It helps you locate hidden or suspicious trackers when your device receives an unknown tracker alert. Once identified, the tracker can emit a sound for better detection. You can then safely dispose of the gadget.

If you can’t immediately locate the tracker, you should enable Temporarily Pause Location. This blocks your phone’s location updates from being accessed by the detected tracker for up to 24 hours. This temporary halt provides a layer of privacy while you assess the situation or disable the suspicious tracker.

These tools are part of Android’s broader updates to its Find My Device network, which now supports tracking for devices even when they are offline. The system is compatible with various brands, including Tile, Pebblebee, and Sony trackers, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

This approach empowers Samsung Galaxy and other Android device users to protect their privacy and detect unwanted Bluetooth trackers effectively. Android’s focus on privacy features makes users safer in a connected world. These updates are rolling out globally, making digital spaces safer for everyone.
