Samsung has reportedly secured a healthy yield rate for its second-gen 3nm processor, allowing for a stable mass production of the Exynos 2500. While the chip still won’t power the Galaxy S25 flagships, the Korean media says it is now “confirmed” to ship inside next year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip FE.
Samsung stabilizes 3nm yield, Exynos 2500 set for the Galaxy Z Flip 7
Samsung developed the Exynos 2500 with the Galaxy S25 series in mind, even referring to it internally as the “dream chip” for its flagship smartphones. However, due to poor yields in its 3nm manufacturing process, the company had to abandon those plans. The upcoming flagships are now expected to feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite globally.
According to the Korean media, Samsung recently stabilized its 3nm yield. It allegedly ran a test production earlier and is now gearing up to start the Exynos 2500’s mass production. The company plans to install the new processor in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip FE next year. The latter is a new product in its foldable lineup.
“It is true that we have had difficulties in mass production since we applied the gate-all-around (GAA) process for the first time in the foundry’s 3nm second-generation process,” a senior Samsung executive said. “However, now that the process has stabilized, it is only a matter of time before mass production begins. It seems that … it will be possible to install it in the Z Flip series premium model.”
Earlier reports suggested Samsung will use the Exynos 2400 or Exynos 2400e in the Galaxy Z Flip FE and the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Flip 7. However, the company might have changed its plans lately, or maybe not. More details should emerge in the coming months. The new foldables will launch alongside two Fold models in the second hand of 2025.
