by | Dec 3, 2024 | Galaxy XR, News

Samsung might finally unveil its long-anticipated smart glasses next month. However, before you get excited, the Korean media suggests it will just be a teaser. The company will tease the product during the January Unpacked event where it will debut the Galaxy S25 series. A full-scale launch is expected in the second half of 2025. Meanwhile, the XR platform powering the glasses could go official later this month.

Samsung to tease its smart glasses during Galaxy S25 launch in January

The Korean conglomerate has been long working on next-gen XR experiences. It has already announced a partnership with Qualcomm and Google, but we are yet to see an end-product of this collaboration. While the firms were initially expected to launch an XR headset, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon recently suggested they are close to unveiling a pair of smart glasses.

Leaks have since revealed its alleged specs and release timeline. A new report from Yonhap News reiterates that timeline but adds that Samsung will tease the glasses in January. The company is expected to hold the Galaxy S25 Unpacked on January 22, 2025, in San Francisco, USA. It might showcase the product’s design at the end of the event, like how it teased the Galaxy Ring at the Galaxy S24 launch event in January this year.

Samsung eventually announced the Galaxy Ring alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in July. It might do something similar with the smart glasses next year. After dropping a teaser in January, the company might announce a full launch alongside the seventh-gen foldables in July or August.

Meanwhile, Samsung allegedly plans to launch its XR platform for the glasses later this month. The new OS will power its XR products in the future. The upcoming smart glasses are expected to offer AI experiences, digital payments, facial recognition, and gesture support among other things. It may run on Qualcomm’s AR1 chipset and feature a 12MP Sony IMX681 camera and a 155mAh battery. More details are awaited.
