Strong Galaxy S24 Sales Boost Samsung’s Confidence Ahead of S25 Launch

by | Nov 28, 2024 | Galaxy S, Galaxy Z, News

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 series is a commercial success, a recent market study reveals. Ten months since launch, the 2024 flagships have outsold their predecessors by nearly 17%. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has also proved to be quite popular so far, with sales increasing over 25% compared to the Fold 5. The Flip 6 hasn’t been able to replicate the Fold’s success, though.

Galaxy S24 sales surge by 17%, Ultra remains the top choice

Samsung launched the Galaxy S24 series on January 17, with sales beginning on January 24. Over the past ten months, the company has sold 31.85 million units of the three models combined, a market study by Hana Securities reveals. As expected, Ultra is the most popular model in the lineup, accounting for 46% of all sales (14.65 million units). Samsung sold 6.27 million Galaxy S24+ (20%) and 10.94 million Galaxy S24 units (34%).

In comparison, the cumulative sales figure of the Galaxy S23 trio reached 27.26 million units over the same period. The share of the three models was 46% (12.6 million), 18%(4.97 million), and 36% (9.69 million), respectively. This year, Samsung sold 17% more Galaxy S24 flagships than in 2023, which should boost its confidence ahead of the Galaxy S25 launch.

The new flagships are expected to go official on January 22, 2025, with sales potentially beginning later that month. All three models are likely to ship with the Snapdragon 8 Elite globally — the Galaxy S24 and S24+ featured Exynos processors in most global markets. Since Galaxy fans tend to prefer Snapdragon processors over Samsung’s Exynos chips, this move could drive sales.

Samsung’s foldable game is still strong

Despite tough competition from Chinese brands, Samsung’s foldable sales have grown too. Three months since launch, the company has sold 4.28 million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 combined. It sold 3.94 million Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 over the same period last year, so we are looking at a 9% year-over-year sales growth.

Interestingly, the Fold model’s popularity is on the rise. While the Flip 6 still outsold the Fold 6 (2.47 million vs. 1.81 million), its sales remained flat over the Flip 5 (2.51 million). The Fold 6 saw a 25% jump in sales over the Fold 5 (1.44 million). These figures do not take into account the sales of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, which launched in China and South Korea in late October.
