OpenAI Plans to Launch a Browser, Partner with Samsung

by | Nov 22, 2024 | News

After launching SearchGPT, OpenAI may be looking to challenge Google on another front. The creator of ChatGPT plans to launch a web browser rivaling Google Chrome. The firm is also exploring a partnership with Samsung to bring its AI tool to Galaxy users worldwide.

OpenAI may be developing a ChatGPT-integrated web browser

OpenAI introduced its AI chatbot ChatGPT in late 2022, kicking off a new era of generative AI. After gaining widespread popularity, the company has started looking for ways to expand its business. It recently launched a search engine that incorporates the chatbot’s capabilities. The next step might be a full-fledged web browser.

According to reports, OpenAI aims to further disrupt the tech landscape with a web browser that seamlessly integrates ChatGPT. The company is already in talks with industry partners on the planned products. These moves are seen as a direct challenge to Google’s dominance in the search and browser markets. OpenAI is seemingly taking on Google head-to-head.

Alongside search, the two firms compete fiercely in the AI chatbot industry. Google’s Gemini is a direct competitor to ChatGPT. OpenAI launching a browser would further pit them against each other. However, Google has other potential troubles looming over its Chrome browser. Recently, the US Department of Justice argued that Google should sell Chrome to address monopoly concerns in online search.

In addition to its browser plans, OpenAI has reportedly discussed integrating ChatGPT into Samsung Galaxy devices. The idea is to power Galaxy AI features using its AI technologies. However, Samsung recently unveiled Gauss 2 with major improvements. It might not want to rely completely on third-party technologies.

For Galaxy users, Samsung’s Internet Browser already offers AI features like “Browsing Assist” that can quickly summarize and translate web pages. Whether Samsung would be interested in a partnership with OpenAI remains to be seen.
