Samsung may soon unveil a new AI smartphone, allegedly the “real AI phone”. The Korean firm has reportedly collaborated with domestic carrier LG Uplus to develop a custom smartphone featuring Galaxy AI and the carrier’s AI assistant ixi-O. The device is expected sometime in the next year, but a more precise launch timeline is missing.
Samsung and LG Uplus are developing the “real AI phone”
LG Uplus, a major Korean mobile carrier, offers an AI tool called ixi-O to its subscribers. It is an AI call assistant capable of advanced functions like automatic call answering, real-time voice phishing detection, call recording and summarization, and voice-to-text conversion. The company plans to build on the tool and expand its AI offerings in the coming years.
According to the Korean media, LG Uplus plans to launch a custom smartphone with ixi-O built-in. And who better than Samsung to develop it? The Korean giant is the world’s largest smartphone company with excellent know-how of mobile AI. It started a new trend in the industry with the introduction of Galaxy AI on the Galayx S24 series earlier this year.
The two Korean firms are jointly working on a custom device touted to be the “real AI phone,” thanks to built-in Galaxy AI and ixi-O. Both are already powerful AI tools on their own. An integrated setup could take things to another level. Unfortunately, details are scarce, so we can’t confirm anything yet.
It’s also unclear if the device in question is a completely new product or a rebadged version of an existing Galaxy phone. Samsung has previously launched rebranded versions of some Galaxy phones with a different name in Korea, often collaborating with domestic carriers. We may learn more about this phone in the coming months as the two firms work on the project. Stay tuned for more updates.
