Dolby Atmos Update Causes Audio Issues on Galaxy S23, Fix Incoming

by | Nov 11, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

If you have noticed a drop in audio quality on your Galaxy S23 lately, you’re not alone. Many others have been experiencing similar audio issues, with the One UI 6.1.1 update seemingly introducing a bug. After initially denying the problem, Samsung recently acknowledged it and confirmed ongoing efforts to address the issue. It hasn’t shared a timeline for a fix.

Galaxy S23 users report audio issues, a fix is on the way

Several Galaxy S23 users recently took to online platforms, including Samsung’s official community forum and Reddit, to complain about audio quality issues. The audio output reportedly sounds low and washed out compared to what it was before the One UI 6.1.1 update. The 2023 flagship phones no longer produce crunchy sounds like before, annoying users.

Samsung initially dismissed the complaints saying there aren’t any major audio problems in Galaxy S23 phones. However, after the volume of complaints grew, the company took the matter seriously and investigated it. Unsurprisingly, there is a problem, and it stemmed after a recent update. Samsung says an update to the Dolby Atmos Library caused this issue on the Galaxy S23.

According to the Korean firm, it updated the library from version 3.10 to 3.12 to enhance the 360 Audio feature for a more immersive listening experience. While it was an intentional change, the update altered the sound quality in some audio modes. Users accustomed to the previous audio tuning may find the new settings less appealing, potentially perceiving them as a decline in quality.

Samsung’s software support team has already reported the issue to Dolby, and it’s the latter’s responsibility to fix the problem. A new Dolby Atmos Library update may address these concerns. As said earlier, there’s no specific release date for the update. It’s unclear if the new version will arrive soon or if users have to wait until One UI 7. Samsung may begin the One UI 7 beta program next week.
