A few days ago, we reported that Samsung had begun developing its next XCover series rugged smartphone. The company was spotted working on the Galaxy XCover 8 Pro with the model number SM-G766B. The device is a step closer to its launch, with its battery recently picking up regulatory approval.
Galaxy XCover 8 Pro has its battery certified by BIS ahead of launch
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recently certified a battery pack for an unreleased Samsung phone. First spotted by 91Mobiles, the listing mentioned the model number EB-BG766GBY for the battery. This is enough to tell us that the device in question is none other than the Galaxy XCover 8 Pro (notice the part G776 in the model numbers).
As usual, the BIS doesn’t reveal anything about the phone or the battery it certified. All we can find on its website is that it’s a Lithium-ion battery manufactured by Amperex Technology Limited (ATL), a Chinese battery manufacturer. Samsung uses ATL-made batteries in many Galaxy phones and tablets, including flagship models.
While we currently have limited information on this upcoming rugged Galaxy phone, it could change quickly. Leaks about the Galaxy XCover 8 Pro should pick up pace in the coming months as Samsung prepares for its launch. A BIS certification indicates the phone will launch in India, though we expect a global release around the same time.
As far as the launch timeline is concerned, Samsung doesn’t have a fixed pattern for the XCover lineup. The XCover 8 Pro may debut anytime in the first half of 2025. The Korean firm is also working on a new rugged Android tablet under the Tab Active series. It could either be called the Galaxy Tab Active 5 Pro or Tab Active 6 Pro. We will let you know when we have more information about these devices.
