Galaxy AI Notification Summaries to Support Multiple Languages

by | Nov 5, 2024 | Galaxy AI, News, One UI

Samsung’s Galaxy AI-powered notification summaries in One UI 7.0 may one-up Apple in a key area. It allegedly supports multiple languages from the first day. Apple Intelligence offers a similar feature in iOS 18.1 but it currently works only in English.

One UI 7.0 notification summary may support all Galaxy AI languages

Noted tipster @chunvn8888 recently revealed that Samsung is working on notification summaries for Galaxy phones. The new Galaxy AI feature is expected to arrive with the One UI 7.0 update based on Android 15. The company may start beta testing later this month, followed by a stable release in early 2025.

Soon after the news dropped, people claimed that Samsung was copying Apple since notification summaries already exist in Apple Intelligence. However, the Korean firm implemented AI-powered tools ahead of the iPhone maker, so this comparison isn’t entirely fair. More importantly, Apple’s notifications summary feature is currently available only in English.

Samsung’s Galaxy AI already supports multiple languages. This could give in an edge in providing a more inclusive and versatile notification summary experience. The same source says an early version of notification summaries on Galaxy phones already supports English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Japanese.

Galaxy AI offers six language-recognition tools: Live Translate (for call translation), Chat Assist, Interpreter, Note Assist, Transcript Assist, and Browsing Assist. The Korean firm may expand this suite of tools with the launch of One UI 7.0. It may also add support for more languages — Galaxy AI is currently available in 20 languages along with various dialects.

It’s likely that Samsung will aim to offer notification summaries in all languages supported by Galaxy AI. The company has a track record of ensuring smooth functionality for all supported languages across its AI-powered tools. Expect more details to emerge in the coming weeks as the One UI 7.0 beta is nearing its launch. We will keep you posted.
