A few days ago, Samsung began rolling out the November 2024 security patch update starting with the Galaxy Tab S7 FE. Now, the Galaxy S24 has begun receiving the update in the United States. Specifically, this update appears to be for carrier-locked devices only at this time. We expect the update to reach unlocked Galaxy S24 devices soon enough. Our reader Jonathan sent in this screenshot from his Verizon locked S24 Ultra, which shows a build number of S928USQS4AXJA and a size of 446.13MB.
S24 Ultra November 2024 Update Roll Out
Samsung has yet to detail the vulnerabilities patched in November’s SMR (Security Maintenance Release). The details should be available early next week. From what we know so far, this monthly update is likely limited to security patches and bug fixes. We don’t expect too many new features. However, we will report on any key changes or additions when the unlocked update arrives on our device. The build number may vary but it should be the same changelog globally. As said earlier, Samsung hasn’t detailed the patch yet. It is expected to share the updated security bulletin for November 2024 SMR next week, after Google publishes the latest Android Security Bulletin. As usual, the new SMR should contain several dozen vulnerability patches, including a few critical fixes.
If you’re using an unlocked Galaxy S24 or other carrier-locked device in the US, the update should roll out in the next few days. Samsung typically pushes the unlocked updates last these days, which is disappointing. While the update likely isn’t a massive one for new features, it is still important to download and install for critical security patches. Samsung is hard at work on One UI 7.0. So it makes sense that the monthly maintenance updates are less interesting at the moment. UPDATE 11/4/24: Upon receiving the November 2024 patch on our unlocked Galaxy S24 Ultra, we discovered new AutoBlocker restrictions. This is quite important as it removes some USB debugging options when Maximum Restrictions are enabled.
