Google Starts Rolling Out Dual-SIM RCS for Galaxy Devices

by | Nov 1, 2024 | News, Samsung Apps, Updates

A couple of months ago, Google was spotted testing dual-SIM RCS (Rich Communication Services) support for Google Messages on Galaxy devices. The long-awaited feature is now rolling out to beta users globally, including in the US. It should be available soon to all Galaxy smartphone users worldwide.

Galaxy phones get dual-SIM RCS support on Google Messages

Google has been working on dual-SIM RCS for Google Messages for a long time. After limited testing in August, the feature is now available widely to Galaxy users with the beta version of the app. 9To5Google spotted several user reports on Reddit and other online platforms confirming the availability of dual-SIM RCS. It is rolling out to users on all major wireless networks in the US, including Google Fi, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

This feature works if you have two physical SIM cards or a physical SIM+eSIM setup. Users are seeing dual-SIM RCS support with beta version 20241018_01_RC00+ of the Google Messages app. The public version of Google’s messaging app should pick up this function in the coming weeks. You can check for it by navigating to Messages settings > General > RCS chats in the Google Messages app on your phone.

You will see both of your SIMs listed with a “Connected” status. A checkmark next to the SIMs lets you individually enable or disable RCS for each SIM. If dual-SIM RCS isn’t available for you, this settings page only shows RCS support for one of your SIMs. Dual-SIM support lets you enjoy the same messaging features across both phone numbers. RCS offers features like typing indicators, read receipts, and end-to-end encryption.

As said earlier, Google should soon bring this feature to the stable version of Google Messages. Samsung plans to gradually phase out its Messages app and switch to Google Messages on Galaxy devices for faster RCS adoption. Apple has also added RCS support to iPhones with iOS 18. Keep Google Messages updated on your phone to receive the latest features for a seamless messaging experience.
