The October Google Play System Update (GPSU) is rolling out to the Galaxy S24 Ultra and other Samsung devices globally. It brings new features and enhancements for a host of core Android services and apps, including the Play Store. You can check for it from the Settings app.
October Play System Update available for the Galaxy S24 Ultra
Alongside major feature updates and security patches, Galaxy devices receive regular Play System updates. A new GPSU is released every month, sometimes multiple releases in a month. These contain enhancements for the Play Store and other system apps and services that make up to core of the Android OS. The October 2024 build recently reached the Galaxy S24 Ultra in the US and other parts of the world.
The update size varies depending on your region, but a GPSU usually weighs less than 100MB. We received a 51MB package in the US, while an Indian Galaxy S24 Ultra unit received a 63MB update. Google promises upgrades to the Play Store’s search function, Google account settings’ search function, Pix payment method in Google Wallet, Android TV services, Android Settings services, and more.
The company will soon start preparing the November GPSU and gradually roll out the update. If you are using a Samsung smartphone, you can go to Settings > About phone > Software information > Google Play system update to check for a new version. Your phone will look for an update. If available, you will be prompted to download and install it. You must restart your phone to complete the installation process.
As said earlier, GPSU is different from security updates, which you can check from the Software update menu in Settings. Samsung rolls out monthly security patches to Galaxy devices, though some do not receive the updates every month. It recently started pushing the November patch to eligible models. The Galaxy S24 series should receive the latest security fixes in the coming days. We will let you know when the rollout begins.
