New Quick Share Update for Galaxy Books Fixes a Major Issue

by | Oct 28, 2024 | Galaxy Book, News

Quick Share for Windows PCs, including Samsung Galaxy Books, has received a major new update. Google is rolling out a host of bug fixes to improve the user experience. This update follows another sizeable one with bug fixes and feature enhancements earlier this month.

Update Quick Share on your Galaxy Book for a more reliable experience

After initially merging Android’s Nearby Share with Samsung’s Quick Share earlier this year, Google rebranded the PC version of its wireless file-sharing to Quick Share. It has since updated the app several times to improve its functioning and features. The last update rolled out just a few weeks ago, and the Android maker has followed up with another. It is rolling out version 1.0.2002.2 of the app with several important fixes.

Most notably, the latest update for Quick Share for Windows PCs addresses the issue where files are transferred via Bluetooth when the phone and computer aren’t on the same local network. Ideally, the system should automatically create a Wi-Fi Direct network between the participating devices for faster transfers. The new version does this, Android Authority confirms, though the official release notes do not mention it.

Google also fixed an issue that occasionally crashed the app when connecting to Bluetooth, when a file name has non-ASCII characters, or when reading certain input files. Additionally, it addresses bugs that prevented the Wi-Fi hotspot profile from being deleted correctly and the shortcut icon from showing up in the Start menu after installation. Interestingly, the last update removed the desktop shortcut for Quick Share for Windows PCs.

The release notes mention a host of other bug fixes. This update should significantly improve the stability of Quick Share for Windows PCs. if you use the app to transfer files between your phone and computer, we advise you to install the new version. Sadly, Google has yet to add support for ARM-based processors. The app doesn’t work on computers powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite, like the Galaxy Book 4 Edge.
