Samsung’s most of the Galaxy A series smartphones, including the Galaxy A1x, A2x, A3x, and all the way through to A9x offer support for 5G connectivity. However, none of the brand’s Galaxy A series devices starting with the letters “A0x” offer 5G connectivity. Some of these devices like the Galaxy A04, Galaxy A05, and Galaxy A05 are mostly entry-level offerings. These support the old-gen 4G network technology. However, Samsung could be planning to launch the first phone in the Galaxy “A0x” series that will support 5G networks.
Samsung could launch a 5G variant of the Galaxy A06 in the coming weeks
Samsung launched the Galaxy A06 model earlier in August. Similar to its predecessor, this variant also supports only 4G connectivity. However, the company seems to have a 5G model of the device in the works. While the brand hasn’t announced anything officially, a device dubbed the Galaxy A06 5G has appeared in the database of GSMA.
The phone has been spotted with two model numbers including SM-A066B/DS and SM-A066M/DS. Unfortunately, the database listings didn’t reveal anything about the specifications of the upcoming offering. However, the name has confirmed that the device will indeed support the 5G connectivity.
The only difference between the 5G and 4G models could be the chipset
There’s a possibility that the only difference between the 5G and 4G models of the Galaxy A06 will only be in terms of chipset. The 4G model is backed by the MediaTek Helio G85 processor. The new model will have a different chipset that will support the 5G networks. The rest of the specs including the design, display, cameras, RAM, and even the battery capacity are expected to remain the same.
Samsung could be planning to keep the cost of the 5G offering minimal by using this strategy. Since the phone has already been certified by GSMA, we can expect it to be launched shortly.
