Samsung has begun developing its next generation of foldable devices. Recent rumors suggest the company has five foldable devices planned for next year, including four phones and a tablet. We now have evidence (codenames) confirming the ongoing development of three folding Galaxy phones for 2025.
Codenames for three new Samsung foldables revealed
According to a report from GalaxyClub, Samsung is currently working on three new foldable devices codenamed B7, Q7, and Q7M. The former two should be the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 (to recall, the Flip 6 was B6 and Fold 6 was Q6). This suggests the Q7M is a second Fold 7 variant.
Samsung did launch a more advanced Fold model this year, the China and Korea-only Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. However, its codename is Q6A. The switch from “A” to “M” in the codename suggests the upcoming phone won’t be a second-gen Special Edition model. Or perhaps it’ll see a global release, hence a small change in the designation.
Alternatively, Samsung could be planning a completely new take on the book-style foldable. There are rumors about the company developing a tri-fold model. maybe the Q7M corresponds to it, only time will tell. One thing is clear — the Korean firm plans to expand its foldable offerings. After the Special Edition Fold this year, we might see more new models in 2025.
Interestingly, the Korean media recently hinted at a second Flip model next year. Samsung is expected to launch a more advanced Flip 7. Some reports claimed a more affordable version, but the company says it has no plans os a cheaper foldable. These contradictions could be cleared in the coming months once Samsung ramps up the development.
The tech giant is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S25 series in early 2025. It has three new models in the pipeline, with some exciting upgrades. Its Snapdragon 8 Elite processor looks a league apart with impressive CPU speeds and NPU enhancements. Stick around for more leaks and rumors about the new foldables and S series flagships.
