If you are using a Galaxy Tab S9 model, a new update is on your way. Samsung just released the October security patch for the 2023 flagship tablet lineup. All three models are receiving the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release), though it could take a while for the update to reach users globally. This month’s SMR patches 42 vulnerabilities.
The Galaxy Tab S9 lineup picks up the October security update
Samsung’s October 2024 security update for Galaxy devices contains at least seven critical patches, more than any other recent SMR. If exploited, these vulnerabilities could allow threat actors to remotely access your device and launch more devastating attacks. You should install the new security patch as soon as available to plug these vulnerabilities.
The Korean behemoth has already pushed the October SMR to dozens of Galaxy phones worldwide, including all recent flagships. The Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S9+, and Tab S9 Ultra join the party today. First spotted by SammyFans, the update for these tablets is currently rolling out in Samsung’s homeland, South Korea. A global rollout should begin in the coming days.
This update for the Galaxy Tab S9 lineup bears the firmware version BXJ7 (last four characters). The Wi-Fi version of the base model is receiving an OTA (over the air) package of over 330MB. While the update size and build number may vary depending on the device model and region, the content should remain unchanged for all units globally.
Speaking of the content, Samsung is pushing nothing more than this month’s 40-odd security fixes. The Galaxy Tab S9 series recently received the One UI 6.1.1 update with new AI features and other enhancements. Don’t expect another major feature update before the Android 15-based One UI 7. The new One UI version will arrive in early 2025. We will keep you posted.
