Snapdragon 8 Elite Tipped to Power Galaxy S25 Series Globally

Galaxy fans have reason to be excited! Samsung reportedly doesn’t plan to use Exynos or MediaTek chips in the Galaxy S25 series. Reliable industry insider Ice Universe claims that the upcoming flagships will run the newly launched Snapdragon 8 Elite globally. Samsung will launch three Galaxy S25 flagship models in early 2025.

The Galaxy S25 series may run the Snapdragon 8 Elite globally

There have been contrasting reports about Samsung’s chip strategy for the Galaxy S25 lineup. While Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon flagship was always expected to power the phones in the US and a few other markets like China, a couple of others were in contention for the rest of the world. Namely MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 9400 and Samsung’s upcoming Exynos 2500.

According to reports, the Korean firm wanted to use its in-house processor to save costs. However, poor yields of the Exynos 2500 allegedly forced it to look elsewhere. It then considered shipping the Galaxy S25 phones with the Dimensity 9400 in some regions. MediaTek’s latest flagship SoC is said to cost about $40 less than the new Snapdragon, so that made sense from Samsung’s perspective.

However, Galaxy fans wanted the company to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite (aka Snapdragon 8 Gen 4) globally. It appears Samsung has decided to make the Galaxy S25 trio Snapdragon-exclusive, much to the joy of Galaxy fans globally. “Samsung Galaxy S25 series uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Not the Exynos 2500 and Dimensity 9400,” tipster Ice Universe recently posted on X.

Like in previous years, the new Samsung flagships should get an overclocked “For Galaxy” version of the new Qualcomm processor. The standard version offers a peak CPU speed of 4.32GHz, while the Samsung-exclusive one is expected to run at a whopping 4.47GHz. It may also boast a faster GPU, though the rest of the specs should remain unchanged. Expect more detailed leaks in the coming weeks.
