Samsung finally launched the much-awaited Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition a couple of days ago. The phone features a slimmer design, better cameras, bigger displays, and more. It is the brand’s answer to the super slim foldable smartphones from China. Now, Samsung is working on a tri-fold smartphone to launch in 2025. The phone will compete with the Huawei Mate XT, which is currently the only tri-fold phone on the market and it is not available outside China.
Samsung will finally add a tri-fold smartphone to its portfolio next year
Samsung could become the first brand to globally launch a tri-fold smartphone. The Huawei Mate XT is currently only available for consumers in China. Huawei is also banned from selling phones in the US. So, Samsung will become the first company to offer such a product globally.
According to ZDNET Korea, Samsung’s display subsidiary has already completed the development of the parts for a tri-fold smartphone. Still, the final decision to launch a tri-fold phone will be taken by the MX (Mobile eXperience) Division responsible for the foldable phones. The company will launch the device alongside a new Galaxy Z Flip series smartphone next year. The brand’s supply chain is also prepared to deliver the new foldable.
Sales of Samsung foldable phones is dropped this year
The same report also mentions that the sales of Samsung’s foldable smartphones dropped this year. The brand has sold nearly eight million units of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 models. It was short of the forecasted sales of 10 million units. The brand’s foldable OLED displays will be 12 million units in 2024. It is a 40 percent decrease from 29 million shipments from last year. The sales are declining year over year.
Samsung will try to combat the decline in sales by introducing more innovative products like a tri-fold smartphone. So at the moment, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 or the Special Edition are the latest options in the foldable segment from Samsung. That said, Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is the best choice if you are looking for a Samsung foldable smartphone.
