Another day, another batch of Samsung phones got the October security patch. The latest security update is rolling out to the Galaxy Note 20 series and Galaxy S20 FE 5G. These devices join dozens of others in the party, with more expected to follow in the coming days. This month’s security release addresses 42 vulnerabilities, including a few critical ones.
Samsung expands its October security update to more Galaxy devices
The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra are currently receiving the October security update in Europe. First reported by SamMobile, the new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) comes with the firmware build number HXJ1 (last four characters). Samsung should soon expand the rollout globally. The last Note phones are eligible for quarterly security updates.
The publication confirms that the devices are receiving nothing more than this month’s security fixes, which isn’t surprising. The Galaxy Note 20 series is done getting feature updates and will soon stop picking up security patches. The latest SMR addresses at least seven critical vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family, including two Android OS flaws.
These security fixes are also rolling out to the Galaxy S20 FE 5G. The update is available in Europe with the build number G781BXXSEHXJ3 and in South Korea with the build number G781NKSS9GXJ1. In both regions, the changelog only mentions the October SMR. Expect Samsung to release the update in other markets soon, including the US.
The Korean firm will also gradually roll out the October SMR to other eligible Galaxy phones and tablets. It is expected to release the Android 15-based One UI 7.0 beta in November. The beta update may not be available widely, with the Galaxy S24 series likely to receive it in select countries. We will let you know when we have official confirmation. The stable One UI 7 update will arrive in early 2025.
