Galaxy A26 Spotted with Overclocked Exynos Chip, 6GB RAM

by | Oct 21, 2024 | Galaxy A, News

Samsung has begun developing another mid-range Galaxy phone for 2025. We already know that the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 are in the works. Now, the Galaxy A26 has been spotted in the Geekbench database. The listing provides early information about its Exynos chip and RAM.

Samsung readies Galaxy A26 with an overclocked Exynos chip

An unannounced Samsung smartphone with the model number SM-A266B recently appeared on Geekbench. While the listing doesn’t reveal its name, the model number is enough to tell us that it is the Galaxy A26 (5G). The upcoming mid-range phone seems to be running Android 15, suggesting that it will arrive in the early months of next year — Samsung doesn’t plan to release its Android 15 update before 2025.

According to the benchmark run, the Galaxy A26 will powered by the S5E8825 chipset paired with ARM’s Mali-G68 GPU. These details reveal it is Samsung’s Exynos 1280. However, it appears to be an overclocked version as its two prime cores are running at 2.60GHz, though the base speed is still 2.0GHz. The standard Exynos 1280 has two Cortex-A78 CPU cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2GHz.

Hopefully, Samsung has thoroughly tested the chip for thermals. The device scored over 800 in single-core CPU tests and over 1,900 in multi-core CPU tests on Geekbench v6.3. Its GPU score came in at 3,061. The tested device had 6GB of RAM, though the company should offer the Galaxy A26 with more RAM options, potentially a 4GB or 8GB variant or both. Expect more details to emerge in the coming weeks.

As said earlier, Samsung appears to be readying the Galaxy A26 for an early 2025 launch. The Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 are also expected to arrive in the first quarter of the new year. We recently saw the A36 in leaked renders, revealing a major redesign for the rear camera setup. Maybe the other two models will see a similar design change, we shall find out soon. We will keep you posted.
