Galaxy A55 Grabs October Update with 40-Odd Security Fixes

by | Oct 11, 2024 | Galaxy A, News, Updates

Samsung has rolled out the October security update to another mid-range Galaxy A series phone. After recently updating the Galaxy A13, the company has now extended the latest security patch to the Galaxy A55. Several flagship Galaxy devices have also received this update over the past few days, including the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Expect more Galaxy devices to join the party soon.

October security update rolling out to the Galaxy A55

Currently, the October security update is rolling out to the Galaxy A55 in parts of Asia, including India and the Philippines. Samsung will gradually expand the rollout to additional countries in Asia and beyond. While this phone was sold widely in Europe and other regions, the Korean firm didn’t bring it to the US. It only launched the Galaxy A35 stateside, though both debuted at the same time globally.

The October update for the Galaxy A55 arrives with the firmware build number A556EXXS5AXI4. The file size may vary by country, but expect the update to weigh more than 200MB. The changelog is pretty generic — it reads: “The security of your device has been improved.” This means the update brings nothing more than this month’s 40-odd vulnerability fixes, including a few critical ones.

While no new features are available, Samsung notes that you cannot roll back to the previous firmware build after installing the latest update “because of updates to the security policy.” This means the bootloader number has changed — it changed from 4 to 5 (look at the fifth digit from the last in the firmware version above). The previous firmware version was A556EXXS4AXH4. Read our Samsung firmware guide for more info.

Notably, the Galaxy A55 is the only Samsung phone to support Android’s seamless updates, also known as A/B system updates. This feature minimizes device downtime during updates and enables safer installation of updates. Samsung may introduce this feature to more GTalaxy devices in the future.
