Quick Share for Galaxy Books Updated with New Features, Bug Fixes

Google has released an update for Quick Share for Windows PCs, including Samsung Galaxy Books. The new version addresses several known bugs and brings some feature enhancements. Strangely, it also removes the desktop shortcut. The update is rolling out widely for all users.

Quick Share update for Galaxy Books improves performance

Earlier this year, Google and Samsung merged their wireless file-sharing tools — Nearby Share and Quick Share— into a single brand: Quick Share. The change first rolled out to phones, starting with the Galaxy S24 series. Later, Google also rebranded the app’s PC version. The company has since rolled out several updates to the app. The latest release introduces version v1.0.1939.4 of Quick Share for Windows.

This update fixed bugs that occasionally caused the app to crash when opening files and folders or when closing the app. Google also addressed an annoying issue where transfers timed out if they took more than a minute. Additionally, it addressed an error that showed PIN codes even when transferring files between mutual contacts. The update also improves animations for enhanced performance and battery life.

Elsewhere, Google added two new device types: car and foldable. The addition of “car” is a bit strange because Android Auto doesn’t support Quick Share, and there’s hardly a need for it. Why would anyone want to transfer files to their cars? However, what’s more strange here is that Google removed the desktop shortcut for Quick SHare with this update. The shortcut disappears as soon as you install the new version.

While you can manually create a shortcut to the app through File Explorer, this is a strange above from Google. But on the brighter side, it has added “credential expiration and revocation handling”. The new tool notifies users when Quick Share isn’t working properly. The app still doesn’t work on Windows computers powered by ARM-based processors, such as the Snapdragon X Elite-powered Galaxy Book 4 Edge.
