After the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Fold 8 Ultra, Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) has also received FCC certification. The regulatory approval clears the path for its launch in the US and other global markets. The company is widely expected to unveil its new foldable lineup at an Unpacked event in late July.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 grabs FCC approval ahead of launch

Samsung has been developing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Wide) with the model number SM-F971. The US version of the device (SM-F971U) recently stopped by the FCC for approval, revealing some interesting details in the process. FCC paperwork identifies it as a foldable mobile phone and references both a large internal display and a smaller external screen, each equipped with its own camera.

Beyond confirming the device category, the certification reveals several flagship-grade connectivity features. The upcoming foldable supports Wi-Fi 7, NFC, Ultra Wideband (UWB), wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. It also boasts satellite connectivity through NB-NTN technology. These additions suggest Samsung is positioning the device as a premium productivity-focused foldable.

Documentation points to Qualcomm communication components and Smart Transmit technology as well. This basically confirms the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor for the wide foldable. Samsung is expected to ship both Fold models with the Qualcomm chip globally. The Galaxy Z Flip 8, on the other hand, may arrive with the in-house Exynos 2600 processor in most markets.

The timing of the FCC appearance suggests the official launch of these foldables is close. Regulatory approvals often emerge just weeks before a product announcement, and industry reports continue to point toward Samsung hosting its second Unpacked event of the year on July 22.
