Parents have long walked a tightrope when it comes to giving kids their first smartphone. Staying connected matters, but so does avoiding the rabbit hole of social media and endless scrolling. That tension isn’t going away, and companies are starting to respond with more tailored solutions instead of one-size-fits-all devices.

Troomi’s latest device gives the Galaxy A17 a kid-safe makeover

Troomi is the latest to take a swing at the problem. The company has introduced a kid-focused version of the Galaxy A17, running its custom Troomi OS. It builds on Troomi’s earlier efforts in the space, including its child-friendly tablet, which was basically a kid-focused version of Galaxy XCover 7 Pro.

The idea here is fairly simple. The phone removes access to social media apps and open app stores, replacing them with a curated platform where parents approve what gets installed. It also uses AI-based filtering to block harmful content across messages, images, and web browsing before it reaches the user.

On the hardware side, this is still a typical Galaxy A-series device. The Galaxy A17 features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, a triple camera setup, expandable storage, and fast charging. Samsung has also improved durability with better resistance to water and dust, which makes sense for younger users.

Troomi’s approach focuses on limiting exposure from the start instead of monitoring activity later. It’s a different take compared to traditional parental control apps. While it may not suit every age group, it gives parents another option when choosing a first smartphone for their kids.
