Samsung is now rolling out a new update for Samsung News, which brings a couple of meaningful changes. It introduces a short-form video section and also adds more content sources in the US.

As part of this update, it now pulls in stories from more publishers, including ABC News, USA TODAY, The Washington Post, and PEOPLE. On top of that, sports and finance coverage are handled through Yahoo Media Group integration. So you get a mix of breaking news, lifestyle content, and daily updates without leaving the app.

Apart from more publishers, Samsung News is finally embracing short-form content

Samsung News now features a dedicated short-video carousel that shows daily clips across categories like news, sports, lifestyle, finance, and entertainment. These videos come from partners including Entertainment Weekly and Travel + Leisure. Samsung curates these clips in-house to surface trending stories and topics that are likely to get attention.

Further more, users can like videos, follow topics, and shape their feed over time based on their activity. It’s not a major shift in how the app works, but it brings Samsung News closer to other modern content platforms that rely heavily on user behavior to drive recommendations.

The latest Samsung News update is now available in English for Galaxy smartphones and tablets released from 2023 onward in the United States and Canada. Samsung says more regions and language support will roll out in the coming months, although it hasn’t shared exact timing yet.

In a statement, Maya Harris, VP & Head of Strategic Partnerships for Samsung’s TV & Mobile Services, said:

“Galaxy users consume news in different ways, whether it’s through quick video updates or in-depth reporting. We’re continuing to evolve Samsung News to meet those needs, with more formats, more trusted sources and a personalized experience that puts the day’s most important stories front and center.”
