When it comes to the unboxing experience, OPPO takes a clear win over Samsung, at least with the Find X9 Ultra. The device arrives as a complete package, with everything you need included in the box: case, charger, screen protector, and more. But the everyday user experience is always the real deal, rather than in-box accessories. So, here’s my first impressions of the OPPO Find X9 Ultra, and how it compares with the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Same flagship level—but built with different priorities

When we talk about first impressions, it’s not how these phones look on a table. It’s about how they behave once they’re in your hand, your pocket, and your daily routine. On paper, the difference between the OPPO Find X9 Ultra and Galaxy S26 Ultra feels clear. In real use, it’s not that simple.

The Find X9 Ultra sits around 235–236g, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra drops to 214g with a thinner body. You expect the gap to be obvious the moment you pick them up, and it does. But it’s clearly intentional. The weight is present, the build is solid, and nothing about it tries to hide that physical presence. OPPO has distributed its weight in a way that feels controlled, so the device doesn’t constantly fatigue your hand in short use. It feels like a phone designed to be noticed.

Samsung takes a different approach. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, with its Armor Aluminum frame, focuses on reducing weight and improving balance rather than maximizing raw material strength. The device feels lighter instantly, but more importantly, it feels neutral. The weight disappears faster the longer you use it, especially when you stop thinking about it.

So this isn’t about which one is more premium. It’s about what each brand is optimizing. OPPO builds for presence while Samsung refines for control.

Material choice: one device, two different personalities

This is where the Find X9 Ultra splits into two distinct experiences. The black (Tundra Umber) version uses a vegan leather back, while the orange variant uses a fiber-reinforced composite back rather than traditional glass. The difference isn’t just visual—it directly changes how the phone behaves in your hand.

The leather version adds grip, warmth, and control. It feels more secure, especially during longer use, and reduces the perception of weight through friction. The orange version, on the other hand, feels smoother and cleaner. It leans toward a more traditional, rigid finish: slightly more slippery, but also more neutral and minimal in hand. This isn’t about which one is better. It’s about which feeling you prefer.

Samsung avoids this entirely. Every Galaxy S26 Ultra feels identical: thin, consistent, predictable.

Camera design: not size, but position and interaction

The camera module is where design becomes physical. The Find X9 Ultra’s large circular module sits in the center, making it part of your interaction whether you want it or not. Your fingers land on it naturally, and your grip adapts around it. You don’t avoid it. You use it.

Camera size

Samsung doesn’t remove the camera bump, but it controls its placement. The lenses sit along the side, leaving most of the back surface clean. Your hand avoids the camera area without effort.

Table and pocket behavior: repetition defines the experience

This is where design reveals itself over time. The Find X9 Ultra, with its centered module, creates a consistent interaction. On a table, it feels balanced and stable. In your pocket, however, that same module introduces slight resistance when sliding in and out. Not aggressive but always there.

Samsung behaves differently. The flatter layout allows smoother movement in and out of pockets, with less interruption during daily use. OPPO feels more present in motion while Samsung feels cleaner and more predictable. These aren’t one-time impressions. They’re repeated behaviors that define the experience.

Adding a case doesn’t affect both devices equally, but not in the way you’d expect. The Find X9 Ultra is already stable by design. The centered camera module keeps the device balanced on a table with or without a case. Adding one doesn’t change that behavior; it simply adds protection.

Samsung is where the shift happens. Without a case, the side-positioned cameras can introduce a slight tilt on flat surfaces. But once you add a case, that imbalance is reduced. The structure helps level the device, making it feel more stable and controlled.

Protection: exposure defines durability

Durability isn’t just about materials; it’s about what stays exposed. Samsung cases typically wrap around each lens, leaving only the camera glass visible. The rest of the back is protected, reducing long-term wear and minimizing risk.

OPPO takes a more expressive approach. Most cases leave the entire circular module visible, turning it into a design feature rather than something to hide. It looks better. But it changes the risk. Because now, the entire camera surface is exposed to scratches during daily use.

Individually, none of these differences feels major. But together, they form a system. They define how the phone rests, moves, and ages. They shape how often you notice the device or forget about it. And that’s what actually matters in real-world use.

The Find X9 Ultra doesn’t feel as heavy as it looks, and its build quality stands confidently at the flagship level. But its design doesn’t disappear; it stays present in your daily interaction. The material, the camera module, the grip, they all keep reminding you the phone is there.

Samsung takes the opposite approach. Even when small compromises exist, the overall experience reduces friction, protects more, and fades into the background faster. And that’s the real difference. Not which one looks better, but which one you stop noticing and which one keeps asking for your attention.
