YouTube’s PiP Mode Now Rolling Out to Everyone Globally

YouTube is finally making its Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode available to everyone around the world. Now, whether you are a Premium subscriber or not, you can enjoy the feature to watch videos in a small floating window. The company appears to be rolling it out gradually, so it may take a few weeks or months for it to reach all users.

YouTube removes PiP limitations for free users

For a long time, YouTube kept the PiP mode limited. While Premium subscribers could access the feature, the company restricted free users’ access to the United States. This made the feature unavailable to a large number of people without a paid subscription. Thankfully, the firm has now removed that limitation.

In a recent community post, YouTube said, “We’re excited to share that picture-in-picture (PiP) is now rolling out to all users globally in the coming months.” As such, even if you live outside the United States, you will soon be able to use PiP on YouTube. However, the feature works differently depending on your account type.

Free users and Premium Lite subscribers will get PiP support for long-form, non-music content. On the other hand, Premium users will continue to enjoy a fully uninterrupted experience, including music content. These include official music videos, Art Tracks, children’s songs, or user-generated song content.

For the uninitiated, the PiP feature makes multitasking easier on mobile devices. This allows you to exit the YouTube app while a video continues playing in a small floating window on the screen. The best thing is that you can move the window freely, which comes in handy for browsing other apps or replying to messages.

To use PiP, start playing a video, then exit the app by swiping up or pressing the home button. If the feature is enabled in settings, the video will automatically shrink to a small window. Make sure to pause or stop the video if you want to prevent PiP from triggering when you exit YouTube.
