Samsung Display is one of the biggest players in the display industry, supplying panels for nearly everything. That includes smartphones, laptops, TVs, monitors. Now it’s adding another highlight to its QD-OLED lineup.

Samsung QD-OLED displays get UL verification

The company announced that its full QD-OLED lineup for TVs and monitors has received UL Solutions verification under a new “QuantumView” standard. This standard focuses on one thing a lot of people actually notice in real life, and that is viewing angles.

According to Samsung Display, UL tested changes in luminance and color coordinates as the viewing angle moved from the front in 10-degree steps up to 60 degrees. At that angle, Samsung says its QD-OLED panels kept more than 60% of their front-facing brightness, while color shift stayed below 0.012 Delta uโ€ฒvโ€ฒ.

QD-OLED keeps brightness and color stable off-axis

Delta u’v’ measures how much a color shifts from its original value. In simple terms, a lower Delta u’v’ means that colors look the same, and a higher Delta u’v’ means colors shift or look different when you look at the screen from an angle.

Samsung also used the announcement to draw a contrast with LCD panels. It says LCD can drop below 20% luminance at 60 degrees, with color shift reaching as high as 0.025.

Samsung Display credits two main factors: its front emission structure and the how quantum dots emit light. The company says quantum dots show a Lambertian-like emission pattern, meaning light spreads more evenly in different directions. In QD-OLED panels, blue OLED light is converted into red and green through quantum dots. This helps maintain both brightness and color accuracy off-axis.

That matters a lot more now than it used to. TVs are larger, living rooms are shared, and multiple-monitors are more common. Samsung points to dual- and triple-monitor setups as places where wide viewing angles are important. This is where QD-OLED aims to stand out, in how consistent the image stays from anywhere in the room.
