Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung snapped a selfie with Indian PM Narendra Modi. The three sat down for a luncheon at New Delhi’s Hyderabad House, and according to Samsung, that selfie was taken on a Galaxy Z Flip 7. It’s made at the company’s Noida factory in India.
The Noida plant handles everything from budget smartphones to premium foldables, fitting right in with India’s Make in India initiative. Samsung also produces TVs and home appliances in Chennai and runs an R&D center in Bengaluru.
Samsung says it has been making phones in India since 1996. The Galaxy S25 series has also been manufactured in the country, and the India connection goes beyond just production. Samsung R&D Institute Noida’s Managing Director, Kyungyun Roo, recently spoke about how the India-based team has played a significant role in developing features.
He highlighted like privacy display, Now Nudge, Now Brief, call screening, and direct voicemail. He also pointed out that the backup calling feature came out of India’s widespread dual-SIM culture. India remains an important market for Samsung as not only one of the biggest consumer markets, but also as a manufacturing hub.
According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung held on to second place in India’s smartphone market in Q1 2026. This came even as the overall market dipped 3% during the quarter. The Galaxy A series drove strong demand, and the Galaxy S26 pulled in record preorders in the country.
