Google Meet Lands on Android Auto but Misses a Key Feature

Google is finally bringing Google Meet to Android Auto, hot on the heels of its recent debut on Apple CarPlay. The rollout has started reaching some users through a server-side switch, with pop-ups confirming the feature. Google has also quietly updated its support docs to explain how everything works on the road.

The Android Auto version of Google Meet is designed with safety as the priority. It removes all video functionality and limits interaction to a simple, audio-only interface (via Android Authority). Users can join scheduled meetings through a dedicated tab that shows upcoming events, or quickly reconnect with recent contacts using a history section in the app.

Calls connect instantly, skipping the usual pre-call screen, which is a nice touch when you’re behind the wheel. The interface keeps things simple with mute and hang up controls, and audio can switch between your phone and car without missing a beat. It looks like it’s designed to keep your eyes on the road, not on your screen.

One limitation you won’t like, though, is that it doesn’t support Work profiles yet. This means users relying on professional accounts won’t see upcoming meetings or call history on Android Auto. Active calls may still appear, but the limitation significantly reduces the feature’s usefulness for business users.

Google hasn’t said when this gap will be filled. For now, users who need full functionality are advised to park and switch back to their phones. A wider rollout is expected soon, as Google continues to expand availability across supported devices.
