The past few weeks have been all about Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z8 foldables. Now, the iPhone Fold (or whatever Apple ends up calling it) is back in the spotlight. Fresh dummy units of Apple’s first foldable iPhone, along with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, have surfaced. These come courtesy of Sonny Dickson on X.

Unlike most foldables on the market, Apple seems to be taking a different approach with a wider design, and it’s safe to assume the Galaxy Z Wide Fold and the iPhone Fold will share a similar aspect ratio. Of course, not much seems to be changing with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, so we won’t spend as much time on them.

As for the iPhone Fold dummy unit, the rear design shows a dual-camera setup housed in a pill-shaped module that stretches across a large portion of the back panel. Even though it’s just a dummy unit, there’s no sign of MagSafe on the back, which is unusual for Apple’s first foldable. There are a couple of possibilities: Apple might skip MagSafe support on the iPhone Fold, or these are, well, just dummy units.

From what we’ve heard so far, the foldable iPhone could feature a large inner display of around 7.8 inches and a smaller 5.3-inch cover screen. For comparison, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold Wide may sport a 7.6-inch display with a 5.4-inch cover display.

That said, it’s not all smooth sailing. Reports suggest Apple is facing engineering challenges during early production, which could delay the device’s release. While it may still be announced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, the actual release could come later than expected. As things stand, Apple seems to be taking its time rather than rushing things. It may cost as much as $2,000 for the base memory configuration.
