Samsung could make file sharing on Galaxy devices much simpler with the Tap to Share feature. A new concept video showing the feature is getting a lot of attention online, and for good reason. The idea is straightforward: you just need to bring two devices close together, tap, and your files are sent instantly.

How Tap to Share on your Galaxy could enable seamless file transfers

In the early Android 17-based One UI 9 internal build, we got evidence that Samsung is gearing up to introduce the Tap to Share feature. This tool could offer a more intuitive way to send files and contacts between devices, with proximity alone sufficient to initiate sharing. If this sounds familiar, it is because Apple also offers similar functionality via AirDrop (NameDrop).

Now, a concept video shows how Tap to Share might work on Galaxy phones. As you can see in the video, the settings page includes a toggle for the feature, along with an animation and a brief description. It mentions that you can instantly exchange files, links, and automated actions by tapping your device against another smartphone, tablet, or wearable.

Moreover, we can see a bunch of supported apps such as Gallery, Contacts, and Music. This means you can share photos and videos, send your own contact details, or transfer songs with just a tap. As soon as you initiate a transfer, a banner appears to guide you through the process. You can also share Wi-Fi by simply bringing another device near the top of your phone.

The Tap to Share could be built on top of Quick Share, which already allows file transfers between Galaxy devices and other Android phones. However, the new feature will definitely take file sharing experience to the next level. Hopefully, Samsung brings this concept to life when it officially debuts One UI 9. We’ll let you know if new developments surface in the coming weeks.
