Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Leak Suggests Galaxy S25 Could Be Priced Higher

by | Sep 30, 2024 | Galaxy S, News

Multiple reports have indicated that most of the Android flagship smartphones could be expensive. The main reason behind this is the rise in the price of the core components like the chipsets. Now, there’s more evidence that next-gen Android flagships, including the Galaxy S25 series, will be priced higher than their predecessors.

The reliable gadget tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed the price of the next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC. This is the chipset that’s supposed to power the upcoming Galaxy S25 models.

The Galaxy S25 series could be priced higher than its predecessor

According to the source, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor will cost around 20 percent more than its predecessor. This could force Samsung to offer the Galaxy S25 series at a higher price tag than the S24 series models. The tipster claims the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will cost around $190. Last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC should cost around $152, given the 20 percent increase on the upcoming chipset.

The bump in the pricing of the next-gen Snapdragon flagship chipset will increase the cost of the upcoming Android phones. Samsung’s all three Galaxy S25 series models – the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra – would also be affected by the same. Currently, the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra are retailing at the starting prices of $799, $999, and $1,299, respectively. So, you may need to shell out extra bucks if you are planning to upgrade to the next-gen Galaxy S devices.

Most Android flagship phones launching in 2025 could be expensive

Apart from Samsung, the flagship phones from other brands like OnePlus and Sony may also cost more than their predecessors. Notably, the same tipster has also suggested that MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9400 chip will also be 20 percent more costly. So, the upcoming devices that will utilize the new MediaTek chipsets could also be priced higher.

That said, there’s still good news about the next-gen Snapdragon and Dimensity flagship chipsets. Recent Geekbench benchmarks suggested that the Galaxy S25 Ultra might be even more powerful than the iPhone 16 Pro. So you will be getting a significant performance boost for the priced pricing of the new flagships.
