Samsung has barely finished celebrating the launch of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but attention is already shifting to what comes next. Early leaks suggest the Galaxy S27 Ultra could introduce a major camera evolution powered by LOFIC technology. The 2027 flagship allegedly gets a new 200MP sensor with several key upgrades.

Leak reveals early details about Galaxy S27 Ultra’s new 200MP camera

Well-known tipster, Digital Chat Station, recently revealed that Samsung is developing a new 200MP sensor codenamed HPA. With a reported optical format of 1/1.12 inches, it appears larger than the one on the Galaxy S26 Ultra (1/1.3 inches). More importantly, the sensor uses the Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor (LOFIC) technology for enhanced dynamic range compared to regular camera sensors.

LOFIC allows sensors to capture brighter and more detailed shots across a wide range of lighting conditions, while keeping exposure in check. That means cleaner HDR, better highlight retention, and more natural contrast without the aggressive overprocessing. By integrating this technology into hardware, Samsung is gearing up for a major evolution in smartphone photography.

The tipster added that Samsung’s new “HPA” 200MP camera will debut in 2027. While they didn’t name any product, another reliable industry insider, Ice Universe, spilled the beans. They confirmed that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a variant of this sensor. Samsung won’t use the HPA itself, but something based on it.

The sensor reportedly carries the branding ISOCELL HP6 and is slightly smaller at 1/1.3 inches, basically the same size as the current one. However, it’s expected to match the larger HPA sensor in performance, suggesting integrated LOFIC technology and other optimizations. Samsung may refine the sensor and improve image processing rather than simply chase physical dimensions.

If executed correctly, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may bring a notable upgrade to Samsung’s 200MP camera lineup. More details should surface in the coming months.
