Samsung Announces One UI 6.1.1 Update – S22 Ultra Left Out

by | Sep 5, 2024 | News, One UI

The One UI 6.1.1 update is officially rolling out to Galaxy S24 devices in South Korea. Starting on September 9th, the update will arrive on the S24 Ultra in the US and Europe. Samsung detailed the other models that are in line for the update after the S24 series. Here’s the full list unveiled in their blog post:

  • Galaxy S23 FE
  • Galaxy S23
  • Galaxy S23+
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra
  • Galaxy S24
  • Galaxy S24+
  • Galaxy S24 Ultra
  • Galaxy Tab S9
  • Galaxy Tab S9+
  • Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra
  • Galaxy Z Flip 5
  • Galaxy Z Fold 5

Conspicuously missing from this list is the Galaxy S22 series. Many industry insiders and Samsung fans speculated the Galaxy S22 series would receive One UI 6.1.1 features. Previously, a Samsung Community moderator suggested that the S22 Ultra would receive this update. Based on Samsung’s list of eligible devices, this doesn’t appear to be the case. We knew that the Galaxy S21 Ultra would miss out, but cutting the S22 Ultra seems quite odd.  This official list is bad news for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but Samsung does state this list is not exhaustive. Perhaps Samsung plans to release these features for S22 owners further down the line.

This One UI 6.1.1-based update introduces a new image creation tool that generates unique image styles for your photo. Samsung keyboard gets an AI-powered writing assistant that helps you write paragraphs based on keywords or short sentences. Additionally, live call translation now works on third-party apps such as WhatsApp, Google Meet, and Kakao Talk. Overall, this is an incredibly exciting update for Galaxy users globally. We hope Samsung will change course and include more models, but with One UI 7.0 around the corner that is looking less likely.

UPDATED 9/6/24 at 11:11 MST: Other sources have reported that a One UI 6.1.1 update will still roll out to the S22 series but at a later date. However, Samsung has yet to confirm One UI 6.1.1 for the S22, nor has a release date been provided. Either way, it appears many of the Galaxy AI features will still not make their way to the S22 devices.

UPDATED 9/19/24 at 03:40 MST: After originally leaving out the Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Fil 4, and GalaxyTab S8 series from its One UI 6.1.1 announcements, Samsung today released the update for these devices. The rollout will gradually expand globally.
