Galaxy Book 4 Edge adds 15.6-Inch Flavor with a few Compromises

by | Sep 5, 2024 | Galaxy Book, News

In May, Samsung launched the Galaxy Book 4 Edge as its first Windows PC with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite processor. The company released the laptop in two screen sizes, 14-inch and 16-inch. It has now introduced a third variant with a 15.6-inch display. The new laptop will be available in October. Samsung also recently launched the Galaxy Book 5 Pro 360 with Intel’s latest Lunar Lake CPU.

Galaxy Book 4 Edge gets a third, less powerful variant

The 15-6-inch Galaxy Book 4 Edge is less powerful than its siblings. Instead of the Snapdragon X Elite, it gets Qualcomm’s X Plus chipset. Samsung has also downgraded the new laptop to an LCD screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, FHD resolution (1920×1080), and 300 nits of peak brightness. The other two variants boast an AMOLED touchscreen display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 3K resolution (2880×1800), and 500 nits of brightness.

Additionally, the new model lacks a fingerprint scanner and has a dual stereo speaker setup instead of quad speakers. The rest of the specs are largely unchanged, though. The 15-6-inch Book 4 Edge gets the same Hexagon NPU with Qualcomm’s AI Engine delivering up to 45 TOPS of AI computing performance. It boasts an Adreno GPU, Bluetooth v5.3, Wi-Fi 7, 16GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage (no 1TB option here).

The laptop has a 2MP front-facing camera offering a 1080p video resolution. Samsung offers two microphones and Dolby Atmos sound. The new Windows machine has a full-sized Pro keyboard with numeric keys. It packs a 61.2Wh battery, almost the same size as the 16-inch variant (61.8Wh). Samsung promises up to 26 hours of video playback, while the bundled 65W USB-C adapter charges the laptop up to 45% in just 30 minutes.

This laptop has two USB-C (4.0) ports, an HDMI 2.1 with 4K support, a USB-A (3.2), a Micro SD, a headphone/microphone jack, and a security slot. It offers a wide array of Copilot+ PC capabilities with Phone Link support for Galaxy AI features. The laptop also boasts Samsung Knox security. It will be available in a Sapphire Blue color in France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Spain, the UK, and the US starting on October 10. Samsung hasn’t revealed the prices yet.
