Samsung’s August Update Hits Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab Active 4 Pro

by | Aug 23, 2024 | Galaxy Tab, News, Updates

Samsung’s August security update has reached a few more Galaxy tablets. The Galaxy Tab S7 series and Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro are picking up the latest security patch. The new SMR (Security Maintenance Release) addresses 50 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family, including two critical flaws.

Galaxy Tab S7 and Active 4 Pro receive the August update

As of this writing, the August update is rolling out to the 4G (LTE) variant of the Galaxy Tab S7 sold in international markets. First reported by SamMobile, the update bears the firmware build number T875XXS8DXH1 for the base model. The build number for the Plus model may vary but the changelog should remain the same.

The August update for the 2020 flagship tablets doesn’t contain anything more than the latest security fixes. The Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+ are long done receiving feature updates — the tablets didn’t get Android 14 or One UI 6 — so this doesn’t come as a surprise. Samsung will soon end security patches too.

The Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro, meanwhile, should receive updates for at least a couple more years, with a few feature updates along the way. The latest security patch is currently rolling out to the international variant of this rugged mid-range tablet with the build number T636BXXS7CXH1. It bears a similar changelog as the tab S7.

If you are using either Samsung tablet, watch out for a new update in the coming days. You should get a notification once the OTA (over the air) rollout hits your Galaxy Tab S7 or Tab Active 4 Pro unit. You can navigate to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check for new software updates manually.

People looking to upgrade to a new Galaxy flagship tablet have something interesting in the pipeline. Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy Tab S10 series in October. The lineup consists of two models: Plus and Ultra. There is no evidence of a base Galaxy Tab S10 at the moment. Whether it exists, we shall find out soon.
