Samsung’s August 2024 update is rolling out to several Galaxy phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy A73, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy A32 are some new devices that recently received the latest security patch. It contains 50 vulnerability fixes, including patches for two critical security flaws.
The August security update expands to more Galaxy devices
The August 2024 SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is the latest month security patch for Galaxy devices. Samsung has been rolling out this update to eligible models since the beginning of this month. It has already updated dozens of phones, safeguarding them against critical new vulnerabilities potentially causing severe damage if exploited.
The rollout continues with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy A73, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy A32 joining the party recently. These devices are picking up the latest SMR in various markets, including the US for some models. Samsung will update all units globally over the next few days or weeks. Other eligible models will also soon get the August patch.
If you are using any of these Galaxy phones, watch out for an update. You should get a notification once the OTA rollout hits your unit. You can also manually check for updates from the Settings app. Go to the Software update menu and tap Download and install. If no update is available wait a few days and check again. Don’t expect any new features, though.
The August update for the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy A73, Galaxy A53, and Galaxy A32 is all about security fixes. While the Galaxy A73 and Galaxy A53 are still eligible for feature updates (they will receive Android 15 and Android 16), the other two models are nearing the end of their lives. They will no longer receive new features, with security updates ending soon. You should consider upgrading to a newer phone.
