Samsung’s latest foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, are receiving their first software update. The devices are picking up camera, call, and audio-related functional and stability improvements. The update also brings the August security patch to the foldable duo.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 grab their first update

Launched on July 10, with a market release on July 24, Samsung took nearly a month to roll out the first software update to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The rollout recently began in its home country, South Korea. The devices are getting the firmware build numbers F956NKSU1AXH7 and F741NKSU1AXH7, respectively. The OTA (over the air) update file weighs 408MB for the Fold and 397MB for the Flip.

The first update for the new Samsung foldables should soon expand to other regions, including the US. The update may bear different build numbers and file sizes but the changelog should be identical. Speaking of which, both foldables are receiving the same set of changes. The official changelog in Korea says Samsung is pushing stability improvements for call and audio, likely patching minor bugs within these systems.

Additionally, the update improves palm recognition in the camera. Like many other Samsung phones, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 can activate a camera timer when the system detects a raised hand. This can be handy when using a stand or tripod to capture photos from afar. You can show your palm to remotely press the power button. The August update improves this important camera function.

On of of this, Samsung is pushing the August SMR (Security Maintenance Release) to the two foldables. The latest security release addresses 50 vulnerabilities across the Galaxy family, including two critical flaws. This update has already reached dozens of Galaxy phones globally. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 should also soon receive the August update with new security fixes and functional improvements globally.
