Samsung Revolutionizes Caregiving with SmartThings Family Care

by | Aug 15, 2024 | News, Samsung Apps

Samsung has launched SmartThings Family Care, a service designed to assist caregivers. Part of the SmartThigs ecosystem, it offers comprehensive, real-time health tracking and management for the aging population and people who need assistance with their daily activities. The innovative solution allows caregivers to remotely track the health and well-being of their loved ones, making their tasks easier and more efficient.

Samsung’s SmartThings Family Care makes caregiving easier

According to a study, about 33% (1 in 3) of Americans in their 60s and 70s use five or more prescription drugs regularly. This highlights the need for caregiving in the US. Unsurprisingly, a third of American adults provide some form of caregiving. It can be challenging as they need to constantly juggle between their jobs and other everyday chores while ensuring the well-being and proper care of their loved ones.

Samsung is stepping in to make the task easier for caregivers with its SmartThings Family Care. The service offers “schedule management, activity notifications, medication reminders, and location-based care” via the SmartThings app. Caregivers get alerts on their phones if any abnormalities are detected. The app sends a notification to a chosen caregiver depending on their loved ones’ first activity of the day.

Since people who need assistance usually have a very repetitive daily routine, a typical start to the day assures they are ok. Samsung’s SmartThings Family Care also provides caregivers with reminders to check the blood pressure and blood sugar of their loved ones. They can remotely schedule appointments with doctors through their Galaxy smartphone or Samsung TV, ensuring regular checkups of their health and medication.

Additionally, the new service can send location-based alerts to caregivers. They receive alerts when their loved ones arrive or leave a place, helping to ensure their safety. Caregivers can also remotely turn off appliances, automate the air purifier, and manage other devices through their phones. SmartThings users in the US can download the Family Care from the Life tab starting on Friday, August 16. Samsung may expand the service to other markets later.
